GEORGE WASHINGTON SCULPTED BUST

REFERENCED ON THE LIFE MASK CAST IN 1785 George Washington(1732-1799) President (1789-1797) the First President of the United States of America. George Washington was selected for this office because he symbolized qualities of discepline, aristocratic duty, military orthodoxy and persistence in adversity .
The original cast for this was taken in 1785 by Jean Antoine Houdon when washington was 53. Houdon stated he " Had no idea of the majesty and grandeurs of Washington's form and features until he studied him as a subject.".
When Washington returned to Mount Vernon after the war, he was one of the most famous men in the world. Being before photography many artists clamored to capture his image which consumed much of his time. Washington's comments were, "I am so hackneyed to the touches of painters' pencils that I am now altogether at their beck, and sit like patience on a monument, whilst they are delineating the lines of my face."
To save him time in sitting Washington agreed to having this mask made. It has been good fortunes of generations to have this important artifact as part of our national heritage.
The original cast has been preserved in this work. Sculptor Erick Erickson took this cast and set the head at an upward and cocked angle. We are accustomed to seeing Washington , just about every formal portrait of him is in this posture. Washington is on the Dollar bill in this position as well. Washington's eyes are sculpted with the vison of Independence. His wig is perfect and you can even see the bow in his pony tail coming over his shoulder.

It measures 11" High X 11" Wide X 6.25" Deep.

It is aproximatly 11 pounds unpacked.
It is finished in Bronze color
then rubbed with an antiquing overlay to bring out the detail.
The piece is then sealed with a clear coat to preserve the finish.
The Bust stands freely on any flat surface, or it can be mounted on the wall the back is flat. Each piece comes with hanging instructions and the screw.
